You thought to see me would be like seeing a ghost with how infrequent my appearances tend to be here. So many months ago. What have you been doing? You release a book of short stories, promote it just barely, and then disappear for half a year?
Oh what is life but a series of things to get caught up in. It is hard and has its challenges, but it has its pleasures as well, and often if you are not careful you can get swept away by the coming and goings of the tide.
In the wilds I stalk back and forth to where I find my daily toils embroiled and constantly find a foil for my love of spilling words across blank pages, or in this case, reflected in your eyes off a page of the internet.
I am slowly finding my way back into the swing of things. Writer’s block is a real thing, though I rarely have it in full force, but rather I find myself blocked by the expended energy of a rather full life. No complaints here.
However, to be a writer one must write, or else the thoughts you wanted to be placed on a page simply become some distant memory you will never fully recapture.
To know you will always be writing gives you less of a deadline I guess, which causes a lack of urgency. I have been reading a lot of Murakami lately and so I think that may have been what has spurred my recent bursts of writing. Trust me, I have certainly been writing, even if not here. I am well into work on the third tale in the Sarippus story and have been slowly developing side volumes of various different topics.
You will soon come to find that I plan in decades, not days. If you aren’t thinking long term you are already behind. Prepare in strides so that you can advance as quickly.
So what is this site and its posts truly? A historical record of sorts. A timeline of my life that you will be able to look back upon once the works I am focusing on now are published. Again, future thinking, sometimes it’s hard to remain grounded in the present.
An old friend recently asked me to reconnect creatively, a decade after our last work together, and oh how strange it is that we have made it to that point in our lives already. As Kanye said, “we wasn’t supposed to make it past 25…” but then really when you think about it, your first year goes before you turn one, so really turning 30 means you’ve just finished your 30th year and are now on your 31st. Time flies when trying to constrain it with numerical values. It ebbs and flows and you go with it.
And so how would we not end 2021 with an exclamation mark. On Christmas Eve I got COVID, right as I was about to get my first true long weekend in months.
Oh fates what do you have in store for me? For surely you are leading me on one hell of a journey.
